The presidency has commenced training of Nigerian Youths in new block moulding technology to check the problem of building collapse across the country.
The youth transformation initiative called Integrated Youth Economic Empowerment Programme (IYEEP) coordinated by the Special Adviser to President on Youth Empowerment, Ambassador Obi Adim, is meant to economically empower Nigerian youths and enhance their potentials by making them viable entrepreneurs.
The national coordinator of IYEEP, Mr Nwoke Obinna, who gave the hint in Abuja, said the new block/brick moulding technology was brought in from South Africa.
Obinna noted that the by-products of the technology had been tested by relevant agencies and recommended as solution to the problem of building collapse in the country, even as he said the training programme had since started in Imo State with about 50 youths who were also expected to train others on the knowledge they had acquired.
He said, “We are passionate about transferring this skill and this skill is all about brick-making. We know that we have our normal brick moulders. But, this one is not like what we used to know. We have an automated machine, imported equipment, which we are going to use to produce these bricks in commercial quantity.
“Not just producing in commercial quantity, we are giving you fabricated bricks that are not too common in Nigeria and that will also help us in the area of building collapse.”
Besides, he said IYEEP had already taken delivery of additional units of the block moulding machines to be installed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Imo and Kaduna states that would serve as pilot states for the programme.
